I've been flying V tails for about 8 years now, mostly in a "K" model and now for the last two years an "S" model. On a recent trip I happened to look back over my shoulder out the rear window and noticed that the portion of the left ruddervator that I could see had the counterweight substantially above the surface of the stabilizer section. Is this normal? The airplane has a normal IO520 engine, Hartzell 3 blade prop, BDS tip tanks and there were two of us in the front seat (about 315lbs), about 20 lbs. in the back seat and 40 lbs. in the baggage compartment, with 3/4 fuel and none in the tip tanks. Trim at 165 knots was -2.5 with 70% power LOP on the JPI and the ball was 1/2 ball or less left of center.
