Diabetic Pilots

Hello

I am new here and recently had my first flight experience in a 1962 Bonanza V Tail. I have always wanted to fly since I was a kid, and still do. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, and my commercial airline pilot or air force pilot dream was ruined. I know that diabetics can become private pilots, no commercial or military, but I don't know much about how I can do it. Can anyone give me some more information on it? I know there are real pilots here that can shed some more light on it for me. I am 19 and don't want to give up the dream of flight.

Hi-

I hope that you get replies from some pilots with real exprience in this area, but I would also join EAA and AOPA and contact their medical certification experts for advice. They are both large organization that can provide significant support in this area.
