Anyone know if the XM WX can be fed from a 496 to an MX20?

Never heard of it being done. But, I've led a sheltered life...

Maybe John Collins knows.

Garmin Product Support said it was a good idea, but it can't be done.

Jerry -

I note that yo have a J35.  So do I.  I note too that you are N8323D.  Ours is N8326D.  Out of curiosity, what is your serial number?

I was told by my avionics shop that the Garmin portables can only receive input from other devices (430/530 etc) and have no output capability.  So there will be no way to get the weather or anything else out to a larger screen.

The new Gamin 510 has a section in the manual that talks about the input and out capabilities- such as TIS but has no interface for weather. The manual has a diagram of the cable with accepted input and output formats.

Wrong - the 496 (and others, probably) can output comm frequency data to Garmin radios.

If the shop was speaking strictly about XM WX output fine, but it's incorrect to say it doesn't have an output capability.

For weather output capability you need to purchase a WxWork Portable Receiver and interface for  you PC and you will get the satellite weather on your PC. Go to WxWork.com
