Columbus, Georgia (June 14-17) (Weekend Fly-In)

All though I live in Georgia, I just recently learned about the two main features of this fly-in. Who would have ever dreamed of a Civil War “Naval” Museum being this far from the ocean? Seems a Civil War ship made it all the way up the Chattahoochee River to Columbus, Georgia where it sunk. This ship was recovered some years ago and the museum was built. You will be amazed how this ship was built! However, the really big feature at Columbus is the relative new Infantry Museum at Ft. Benning. This museum covers infantry activities from the War of Independence through the Afghan War. The exhibit that caught my attention was the jungles of Vietnam. I was in awe from start to finish. I am currently still working on a special tour of the Ft. Benning Airborne Training Area for our group. - Harold
