Glass Panel Upgrades
« on: June 15, 2012, 03:44:23 AM »
Closing the deal on a 1993 A36, and I'm starting to look at glass panel upgrades. So far, I've got the following;

Aspen 1000/1500/2000/2500
Garmin 500/600 with GNS or GTN Nav/Com/GPS
Avidyne 4000 with EX600 MFD and either Avidyne ID540's or Garmin GNS/GTN Nav/Com/GPS
Honeywell/Bendix/King KFD 850 with KN 94 GPS and KX-165A Nav/Com radios (The aircraft has the old 4 pack of King radios, 2 Nav and 2 Com all seperate) or KNS 770 Nav/Com/GPS

I've been trying to find out more about the STC's for the 4000 and the 850, but can't find anything on them yet. Anyone have any of these and can offer opinions?

Are you referring to the Bendix King KFD-840?  If not, I can't say I've heard of the KFD-850.  I think it looks like a nice panel.  I was very close to putting the G500 in my airplane but I already have a GMX200 (which is close to what the right side of the G500 functionality) and the KFD-840 is a bit cheaper.

Yeah, that's a typo. I meant the 840. I've also looked at some EHSI and Electronic Attitude Indicators.
